Paxton House Restoration
These pictures were taken on September 13,
2001. This is just after the exterior renovation began. This first
phase is to fix things that are deteriorating, keep the water out of the house,
replace rotten wood, repoint the brick, and install a security system.
Details will be listed beside the pictures for your information.
 |
The house is now largely
surrounded by scaffolding. This is the grand entryway. |
 |
You can see that paint has been
scraped away from the peek and now damaged wood will be replaced, broken
glass fixed, and fresh paint applied. Probably the first coat of
paint in 50 years. |
 |
An underwater drain for the
guttering has been put in place. |
 |
People work cautiously to
restore the house without damaging any of its historic values. |
 |
The back of the house is a
disgrace. Look for matching bricks and the installation of freshly
painted windows. |
 |
This damage is as a result of an
addition that had been added in the 1940s. It was recently
demolished to restore the house to its original condition. |
 |
This is the lower porch.
There are many boards that will need to be replaced, and they will all
need to be refastened, scraped and painted. |
 |
Ahhh, power tools... A sure sign
that construction is happening. |
 |
This is the upstairs
porch. It needs the same treatment as the lower porch. This
will be one of the greatest places to sit in all of Buena Vista. |
